Organic Learning
The Brief
Organic Learning is a very simple web site that is designed to be a resource primarily for home educators. With the learning environment 'Moodle' being added as a sub-domain to the web site it was important to select a theme that could be easily carried across both web sites in the future. The web site itself is primarily driven by blog aggregation collecting blog posts from home schooling families their own blogging tool and from other home-ed bloggers from Australia and around the world. In addition to that, is the provision of articles for publication on the web site and information on learning resources that can be found across Australia. This will be expanded on as a full internet resource once Moodle is also added.
Our Solution
The 'Organic Learning' has been established using a well known content management system enabling users to add content and give members the freedom to participate in the site as much or as little as they like. The 'Organic Learning' name is derived from it's counterpart 'Natural Learning' which is a well known home schooling term. Also contributed to by the thoughts of John Taylor Gatto, who coined the term Open Source Education after reading the Cathedral and the Bazaar, open source is a pillar of what this web site exists for - the open sharing of educational resources to enable others to grow. This web site has been built upon open source technologies from server to content management.
